Hi! My name is Mrs. Lisa Hamling. I teach mathematics 9-12 at Riverside Public School in Cedar Rapids Nebraska. My husband is Tom, a diesel technician for AKRS Equipment, and my children are Anna (23), a graduate student at South Dakota State University, Tessa (19), a sophomore at University of Nebraska at Kearney and Marc (13), a seventh grader at Boone Central Middle School. We live in Albion. My hobbies include gardening, camping, crocheting, sewing, cooking, and cleaning (well that is enough)! I attended Holy Family School in Lindsay and graduated in 1986. Then proceeded to Kearney State College and received a B.S. degree in Secondary Math Education in 1990. I continued to go to Kearney State College which then changed to University of Nebraska at Kearney for my master's degree. In 1994, I received my master's in Math Education. Other colleges I have attended are UNL, Wayne State, and Friends University in Witchita, KS.
My first teaching job was in David City Nebraska at Aquinas Catholic School. From 1990 to 1997, Aquinas was my home. Geometry, Pre-Calculus and Calculus became my teaching assignments. Then, I taught College Algebra and College Trigonometry for one year at Doane College in Crete. The drive was long from David City so my commute became shorter when a position at Prague Public School opened up. I taught 7-12 Mathematics for 10 years from the fall of 1998 to the spring of 2008. Then my family made the big move from David City to Albion. Cedar Rapids Public School became my professional home in the fall of 2008 to the present. Now, we are Riverside Public School!
Over the years, I have had other jobs besides teaching. When in high school, I worked as a waitress, corn detasseler, babysitter and farm laborer. When in college, I worked at Appleton Electric as a laborer in manufacturing, desk clerk at the student union, Interlibrary Loan student aid in the college library, and did catering out of the college kitchen. Since college, I have worked as a bank teller for First National Bank of Omaha/David City Branch, volleyball referee, Sylvan math/reading tutor in Columbus, Timpte office keeper and bartender/waitress at the Legion in David City. Of all my jobs, I love being a wife and mother best.
